Buying a present for a motorcyclist is hard when you don't ride. The gear is technical, a lot of it is sized, and the most obvious gift of all - a helmet - is also the one most likely to go straight back in the box. These guides are written for the person buying, not the rider: what each pick actually is, why a rider would be glad to unwrap it, and the one thing to check before you order so the gift fits the person and the helmet they already own.

They are organized two ways. By budget: gifts under $50 for stocking stuffers and Secret Santa, helmet gifts under $300 for when you do know their size, and no-budget premium gifts for the rider whose helmet is due for a serious upgrade. By who you're buying for: a guide to gifts for new riders, who need different things than someone with ten seasons behind them. One idea runs through every page, because it decides whether a gift lands: the best motorcycle gifts need the least information about the rider. A set of riding earplugs, a proper visor cleaner or a helmet lock needs nothing - no size, no model, no brand. A Bluetooth intercom needs one fact: which brand the people they ride with already use, because the two big systems don't fully talk to each other. A helmet needs three: their exact size in that brand, their head shape, and the kind of riding they do. We sort the picks that way, so you know up front how much quiet detective work each gift requires.

The standards are the same as everywhere else on Visor & Vent. We do not crash-test helmets and we won't pretend to; every helmet's certification - DOT, ECE 22.06, Snell, SHARP - is cited to the standards body or the manufacturer, and where the US version differs from the European one we say so. Prices are pulled live from Amazon and shown only while they're fresh; if our price data is more than 48 hours old, the number disappears rather than going stale. And a gift guide is not a reason to relax any of that: a helmet is safety equipment first and a present second.

Before you buy any motorcycle gift: four quick checks

1. Do they already have one? Riders tend to buy the obvious things for themselves. A quick look in the garage, or a casual question about their helmet, saves you from gifting a second intercom or a duplicate lock.

2. Get the size for anything they wear. Helmet sizes vary from brand to brand, so "they wear a medium" only helps if it's a medium in the same brand. Also know that the Amazon links on our helmet picks open on one specific size and color - choose the recipient's size on Amazon before you add it to the cart. 3. For an intercom, find out what their riding friends use. Cardo and Sena both run their own Mesh group systems, and a Cardo and a Sena only connect over plain Bluetooth, losing the group features that make these units worth the money. If their friends run Sena, buy Sena.

4. Check the return window before you order. Holiday gifts often sit wrapped for weeks, and a sized item that doesn't fit needs to go back. Amazon's standard policy covers most items for 30 days from delivery, in original or unused condition. For the 2025 holidays it extended that, so most items bought between November 1 and December 31 could be returned until January 31, 2026. Amazon hadn't announced a 2026 holiday window when we published this, so check the return terms on the order page before you buy.

And one rule with no exceptions: never give a used helmet. A helmet can look perfect and still have absorbed an impact that damaged the liner inside, and nobody can see that from the outside. Our guide on when to replace a helmet explains why.

What is a good gift for a motorcycle rider who has everything?
Things that get used up or wear out. Riding earplugs, a helmet-safe visor cleaner and a clean microfiber cloth all get used constantly and replaced eventually, so a rider who "has everything" will still use them. Our gifts under $50 guide covers them, with the one thing to check on each.
Is it a good idea to buy someone a motorcycle helmet as a gift?
Only if you know their exact size in that brand, their head shape and the style they ride. A helmet that doesn't fit properly doesn't protect the way its certification promises, so fit matters more than the surprise.
