The 5/5 SHARP score: what it measures

The headline is the SHARPrating. SHARP is the UK government's independent helmet-safety programme: it buys helmets off the shelf (so manufacturers can't cherry-pick samples) and impact-tests them at multiple speeds and points, then publishes a 1-to-5-star rating. A 5/5is the top score, and it's rare — it means the K6 S performed excellently across SHARP's battery of linear impact tests. Unlike a homologation, which is pass/fail, SHARP is a graded, comparative result, which is why it's the closest thing to a consumer crash-test score that exists.

What the score does — and doesn't — tell you

A 5/5 SHARP score is strong, genuinely independent evidence that the K6 S manages impact energy well. But read it for what it is. SHARP primarily rates linear impactperformance; it is not the same test as ECE 22.06's rotational assessment, so the two complement rather than replace each other — and the K6 S holds both. SHARP also tests the specific model and generationit bought, so the rating applies to the helmet tested. How it compares

Very few full-face helmets pair genuine US ECE 22.06 with a 5/5 SHARP score, and the K6 S adds class-leading low weight (~1,255 g) on top — which is why we call it the safety-data leader of the full-face class. Its closest rival on data is the HJC RPHA 1N, which counters with FIM racing homologation rather than a SHARP score (see RPHA 1N vs K6 S). The Shoei RF-1400's European twin, the NXR2, is also 5/5 SHARP, but the US RF-1400 itself is a Snell build.

Confirming it on the helmet you buy

Because certification can differ by market, it's worth confirming the marks on your actual helmet rather than trusting a listing. Inside a genuine US K6 S you'll find the DOT label and the ECE 22.06approval label (a white tag showing the E-mark and an approval number beginning 06, the "06" denoting the 22.06 revision). The SHARP score isn't printed on the helmet — it's published on SHARP's website for the model, linked in our sources below. Checking the ECE label's revision number is the single most useful habit this whole site tries to teach: it's how you tell a genuine 22.06 helmet from an older 22.05 one, or a US build from a European one.

One caveat specific to independent scores: SHARP tests the generation it buys, so make sure the score you're reading is for the current K6 S and not a predecessor. AGV's own materials and the SHARP database both refer to the current model, and the two agree — DOT + ECE 22.06 with a 5/5 SHARP result — which is exactly the alignment you want to see before trusting a safety claim.
